The Clippers won 12 of their next 14 games, including road wins over the defending champion Dallas Mavericks and the Western-Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder, clinching only their fifth playoff birth since their 1976 conference semi-finals loss to the Boston Celtics (the last time they made the playoffs as the Buffalo Braves) before a dominating home win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 16, 2012. It was their 3rd win in four regular season games against the Thunder. Chris Paul's push for the NBA Most Valuable Player Award was at its peak. The 2011-2012 NBA season will be the first the Clippers will be in the Playoffs since 2005-2006.
The team gained the nickname "Lob City" due to several alley-oop plays, usually between Paul to Griffin or Jordan.
In their first playoff game, the Clippers managed to overcome a 27 point lead the Grizzlies had held over them to win their first playoff game of the season 99-98.
